West Midlands 5G stands united with the NHS, scientists, WHO, the UK Government and others in condemning the false 5G health risk rumours – including the conspiracy theories linking 5G to COVID-19 – that have been spread on social media in recent weeks and also in condemning the recent attacks on telecoms engineers and mobile infrastructure.

As Professor Stephen Powis, National Medical Director for NHS England, said on 4th April 2020: “I’m absolutely outraged, absolutely disgusted, that people would be taking action against the very infrastructure that we need to respond to this health emergency.” He goes on to say of the conspiracy theories about coronavirus and 5G: “It is absolute and utter rubbish.”

Should you require further information, we have provided a series of links below providing the facts from the independent experts explaining why there aren’t health risks from 5G.

In the UK, Public Health England (PHE) is the independent body responsible assessing the scientific evidence on public health matters including 5G.  PHE concludes that “there should be no consequences for public health” from 5G. In addition Ofcom, the UK telecoms regulator, has recently tested 5G mast sites to check that emissions do not exceed existing guidelines. In each case, it found that emissions were “a small fraction” of what was allowed, with the highest reading just 1.5% of the maximum level permitted. Please see the link below for more information: www.ofcom.org.uk

Furthermore based-on its assessment of scientific research into mobile phone signals and health over 15 years the World Health Organisation concludes “there is no convincing scientific evidence that the weak [radio frequency] signals from base stations and wireless networks cause adverse health effects.” Please see link for more information www.who.int

It is worth noting that the dangerous conspiracy theories that have been circulating on social networks about alleged links between 5G and COVID-19 have been widely debunked and disproven by NHS leaders and scientists as has been extensively reported. There is no evidence of a link between 5G and coronavirus.  Please see the BBC Reality Check ‘Coronavirus: Scientists brand 5G claims complete rubbish’
